YOUR BRAIN ON WATER

Upon waking, what do you find yourself doing to start your day? Is your coffee pot pre-programed so that you can enjoy your Cup o’Joe immediately, or do you replenish and re-hydrate your fasted body with a nice, tall glass of water? Even if you don’t necessarily feel parched upon waking or thirsty throughout the day, the benefits of drinking water not only aid us in physical functions, but also mental functions. There are exercises for keeping your mind sharp, brain puzzles, super foods, and sleep, but one simple, yet often disregarded thing people can do to aid in brain health is just drinking water. Don’t take this simple task for granted, use it to your advantage.
Similar to other organs in our body, our brain depends on proper hydration to function optimally and efficiently. A delicate balance between water and surrounding elements is needed by our brain cells, and when we lose too much water, the balance is disrupted, putting us in an inefficient state. Water gives the brain the electrical energy for all brain functions, including thought and memory processes, and the production of hormones and neurotransmitters. “Optimal brain function means the ability to think faster, be more focused, and experience increased clarity and creativity. According to Dr. Corinne Allen, founder of the Advanced Learning and Development Institute, brain cells need two times more energy than other cells in the body. Water provides this energy more effectively than any other substance.” (2)

The normal 6-8 hours we sleep, is the longest period we naturally go without drinking water. However, unbeknownst to many, we still lose water even when we sleep. With every somnolent breath, moisture is expelled, and the cumulative effect is for us to lose hydration.

Keeping our brain fueled is obviously of utmost importance. In honor of World Water Day 2017, it’s critical we not only recognize water’s significance for our brain and body, but also become aware of its importance in the environment, agriculture, and trade, and the scarcity many experience when it comes to accessing clean water. It’s one of our most essential resources, yet there’s so much to learn. Let’s do what we can to educate and inspire others about the world’s water.

5 REASONS WHY YOU MIGHT BE BLOATED

1.Not drinking enough water – This is caused by coffee and alcohol if taken a lot. One will have to consume 6-8 glasses of water as well. When body is deprived of water it starts using liquids it can find, therefore bloating could be caused due to fluid retention. That is why one has to start drinking lots of water.

2.Constipation – this is meaning that you have to add fiber in diet as the gas is trapped behind the feces. Gradually consume fiber, not at once, because it may worsen the problem. Use whole grain bread, drink a lot of smoothies and eat more berries.

3.You are too stressed – some studies say that bloating can be caused by too much stress then brain prevents the digestive system from functioning properly. Also, you may be caused by stomach ache. Once you relieve the stress, this issue is solved.

4.You eat too fast – when the food is chewed body starts processing it more slowly . Then bloating may appear. It is very significant to eat in small bites.

5.Too many carbs - Carbs bloating can appear due to eating too much carbs, but it may be solved by eating low-carb foods. Replace sugar and alcohol with vegetable and fruit.

DON'T GIVE UP

Sometimes despite all the motivation in the world and all the pep talks and all the pictures you see of people working out that are posted online to get you going, it is still so incredibly hard to stay motivated!

I know from personal experience that sometimes you just want to have that slice of pepperoni pizza or drink a soda or not go for a walk or not go to the gym, but remember, you cannot give up! You might be tempted but if you stick to your goal, later on you will not regret it.

You did not gain all that extra weight in a week, so don't expect it to come off in a week as well! 


The key is to not give up. Stay focused and continue with your goal. When you feel the urge to have a soda, take a deep breath and say, "no!"  Reach for a glass of water instead, maybe with a few lemon  wedges for flavor. And instead of a pepperoni pizza, grab a healthy snack, like an apple or string cheese or focus on making a healthy meal option. 

Remember you are not alone in this journey. You are now on your way to A Fit Place! You are not going to go on a diet, you are going to focus on living a healthier lifestyle.
